DukeFest – 15-Years!

As well as not being able to put on any shows since 2019 it was also really important to both of us to put on #DukeFest again this year as this August marks 15-years of The Duke! An event we really didn’t want to let pass without having a chance to celebrate with you all. We’ll be announcing the line-up just as soon as it’s all locked, in the meantime here’s the breakdown of how the four nights will run:

Sunday 31st July – Prince Charles Cinema

Monday 1st August – King & Queen FREE ENTRY

Tuesday 2nd August – King & Queen FREE ENTRY

Wednesday 3rd August – Prince Charles Cinema

Tickets for our Prince Charles shows will be on sale soon, well let you know when they’re available!

DukeFest – The Return 2022

DukeFest Is Back! Join us for DukeFest: The Return at The Prince Charles Cinema & King And Queen pub Sunday 31st July – Wednesday 3rd August 2022! Our first event since 2019, we can’t wait to see you all again, we’ve got four nights of film oddities ready for you. We’ll announce the line-up real soon, so good to be back in action, please help spread the word!

Leicester Square 1976 Style!

A fantastic random picture find via ebay here’s a look back at the square in 1976, one that magically manages to capture 4 cinemas all in one frame. Far right and mostly obscured by the railing it’s the Warner Brothers West End, we can’t see what’s playing though sadly. Then look up and central and you’ll see a previously unknown sign for The Prince Charles Cinema which is just out of sight up Leicester Place. Then there’s the long gone Jacey which is playing Black Emanuelle, must have been amazing to walk past and see that huge billboard displaying that one. Then on the far left you can just see the marquee for The Empire, where you can make out the partial word ROSSING, which is very probably The Cassandra Crossing from 1976, the date fits and I can’t think of anything else that fits title wise. The toilets are still in the same position, though updated now, beyond the changes to the shops and restaurants this side of the square still actually looks quite the same today.
